Memorial To Our Lives
In the aftermath of national protests following the tragic school shooting in Parkland, B-CC for Gun Control created an art installation to honor teenagers gunned down across the country in 2018. Entitled “Memorial to Our Lives,” the installation features several hundred shirts with the names of teenage victims of gun violence on the front. It aims to bring awareness to the epidemic of everyday gun violence, including the numerous gun deaths that go without notice.
Memorial to Our Lives was initially stationed along the B-CC fence that lines East-West Highway, in a position seen by hundreds of passersby every day. In just one week, members of the B-CC for Gun Control club worked to raise over $1,600 in funds for the project and create the shirts.
The memorial soon traveled to five other schools across the county - Churchill, Einstein, Walter Johnson, Poolesville, and Richard Montgomery. Activists at each school built on the installation, adding shirts as the death count rose. They, too, refuse to forget.
B-CC for Gun Control partnered with MoCo Students For Change to bring the memorial to all Montgomery County schools over in 2018-2019 school year.
