MoCo Students for Change
About MoCo For Change
Our Origins
In March of 2018, students in Montgomery County, MD found themselves outraged by the massacre that occurred in Parkland, Florida a month earlier. Inspired by the courage of the student activists from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, they founded MoCo Students For Gun Control, an organization dedicated to providing a platform for students in Montgomery County to have their voices heard in the fight against gun violence. Throughout the Spring of 2018, our organization mobilized an estimated 6,000 students from over 40 schools in the DMV area to attend a student rally against gun violence on Capitol Hill. The demonstration received national media attention and eventually led to some of our organization's key members to be invited on stage at the March For Our Lives in Washington, D.C. Months later, we voted as an organization to change our name to its current version, MoCo Students for Change, in efforts to better represent our new, broader social justice-oriented mission.
Our Mission
MoCo For Change is an all youth organization, mobilizing the students of Montgomery County to solve the most pressing issues of our time. With a concentration on gun violence prevention, climate reform, and social equity, we strive to create tangible change through focused and innovative activism.
